About the Author

Theologian from the wilderness

Kristen is a theologian, podcast host, and social justice advocate whose work sits at the intersection of Christian formation, racial repair, and courageous discipleship. She is the creator and host of Jesus, Justice and Mercy — a podcast offering courageous hope for the church and serves as the Executive Director of a non-profit supporting an NGO in Uganda that provides school fee support and community education to children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Her theology is forged in real terrain: church hurt, complex family, the daily weight of raising biracial sons in a world still learning to see them fully. She writes as someone who has walked through disorientation and come out the other side, not unscathed, but re-formed.

Kristen’s work draws deeply from Black theological tradition, trauma-informed frameworks, and the Scriptures she has refused to abandon. She is known for handling difficult truths with honesty and care, neither watering down the prophetic nor losing the pastoral. Her speaking and writing move people toward what she calls holy disruption: the sacred unsettling that precedes repair.

She is currently developing Discipled Into Silence, her debut book. She lives with her family and writes from the margins, accompanied by three dogs who consider themselves essential to the creative process and two cats who remain unconvinced the book is necessary at all.

Debut Book

Discipled Into Silence

How Wilderness Re-forms Us for Justice and Repair

The church has a formation problem. For generations, white Christians have been shaped by liturgies, practices, and silences that cost marginalized communities dearly, often without ever being named as such.

Discipled Into Silence names what that formation has done, what it has cost, and what it looks like to move through deconstruction not into emptiness but into re-formation. Drawing on Scripture, Black theology, and the raw terrain of the wilderness journey, this book is a companion for Christians who sense that something is broken and dare to believe that repair is possible.

It is not a map out of the wilderness. It is a guide for living faithfully inside it, until you are re-formed enough to build something new.

Podcast

Jesus, Justice + Mercy

Now in its third season, Jesus, Justice and Mercy is a podcast for Christians who sense that justice matters but feel the tension between Jesus and much of what they see practiced in the church. Each season engages Scripture, history, and lived experience to explore the intersections of faith, justice, and discipleship – covering race, trauma, power, and the ways faith has been both a source of harm and a force for healing. Listeners call it “beautifully written,” “thought-provoking,” and “important, holy work.” Available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Global Work

Friends of Ruwenzori | KIDA, Uganda

Kristen serves as Executive Director of Friends of Ruwenzori, the US funding partner of KIDA (Kitojo Integrated Development Action)  a Ugandan-run NGO fighting HIV/AIDS and poverty in the rural Ruwenzori region of Western Uganda. KIDA operates a full-service hospital, provides school fee support for vulnerable children, and runs vocational and community health programs, all rooted in the conviction that empowered communities can take care of their own lives. For Kristen, this work is theology made tangible.
